First Gossip Girl lost Jessica Szohr and Taylor Momsen, and now it's bidding adieu to another original cast member: Connor Paolo, who's played Blake Lively's little brother, Eric Van Der Woodsen, for the past four seasons.
Paolo, 21, made the announcement during the Television Critics Association summer press tour. Given his regular status on the new ABC thriller Revenge, Paolo said it would be nearly impossible to juggle both roles.
"I don't know that I'll be able to recur on Gossip Girl," he said. "That's a question for the creators of both shows."
At the end of last season, Paolo's Gossip Girl character was planning on going to college at Sarah Lawrence. "Eric's going to college and he's going to stay there," Paolo told reporters. "He doesn't come home for Christmas anymore."
After the panel, Paolo told Entertainment Weekly he was optimistic about his post-Gossip Girl future. "I try never to look back. I hope my legacy will be being the one positive character in a slew of double-talkers."
