Dancing with … Mickey Mouse?! ABC announced on Friday, January 15, that two-time Emmy winner and six-time Dancing with the Stars champion Derek Hough will serve as master of ceremonies for its The Wonderful World of Disney: Disneyland 60 television special, airing February 21. He will be joined by fellow DWTS champion Witney Carson on the special.
"Hough will guide viewers through 60 years of Disney magic, showcasing sensational song and dance performances and special appearances in the star-studded two-hour special, and additionally, Hough will headline a spectacular dance tribute with a medley of Disney's most popular and beloved music," the network said in a press release.
Us Weekly can also share an exclusive shot (top) from the special. Hough, 30, and Carson, 22, join previously announced performer Sir Elton John, with more to be announced shortly.
"They asked me about doing the 60th anniversary special, and of course the more things Disney asks me to do, the more time I get to spend at Disneyland, so of course I was in!" Hough tells Us during filming at Disneyland.
"I've done some stuff with Disney before, being a part of the Disney family with ABC," he continues. "It's going to be an amazing special. Hearing some of the artists and the people attached to it, it's going to be really great. It's been crazy being at Disneyland at 4 in the morning, rehearsing! We were there all night rehearsing, and it's interesting to be in the park when it's all empty! It's pretty special, pretty cool. It's beautiful."
Hough admits he does get a few other perks from Disney as well, telling Us, "It helps to work with Disney when you have 22 nieces and nephews — it really helps! No joke, there was one year where I went 10 times because I always take them!"
Tell Us: Will you tune in for the Disneyland: 60 special?
The Wonderful World of Disney: Disneyland 60 airs on ABC on Sunday, February 21, at 8 p.m. EST.
