Though country crooners Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina remained on a relatively even playing field going into Wednesday's finale, McCreery, 17, edged out Alaina, 16, to score the title after a strong finale round showing and a solid performance of his debut single, "I Love You This Much."
While Alaina — one of Idol's youngest finalists in show history — appears to have no hard feelings, 51 percent of Us Weekly readers expected her to win, according to a poll conducted online Wednesday.
"You would expect that I felt disappointed, but I didn't," Alaina told Us after Wednesday night's finale. "Scotty's my best friend and we went through this whole process together…I knew it in my heart and I'm just so proud of him and I'm proud I got second place to him, it's just unbelievable."
