Explain yourself, Eric Stonestreet! Earlier this year, Modern Family mainstay Jesse Tyler Ferguson opened up about an epic prank costar Stonestreet pulled on him (hint: it involves sex toys and Jim Parsons), and in a May 20 interview with HuffPost Live, Stonestreet said that Ferguson got him back — and good!
Retelling the story Ferguson first shared on Meredith Vieira‘s talk show in April, Stonestreet told HuffPost Live that he sent Ferguson a “very explicit sex toy” in good fun, but the gag backfired very quickly when Stonestreet learned that Big Bang Theory‘s Parsons often receives neighbor Ferguson’s mail in error.
“I feel bad for Jim in this. I sent Jesse a very explicit sex toy as a joke, and it didn‘t make it. I made sure it said ‘Jesse Tyler Ferguson, redheaded guy on Modern Family,'” Stonestreet recalled. After realizing the major snafu, Ferguson forced his costar to videotape an apology to Parsons — as his Modern Family alter ego, Fizbo the Clown. “Jesse made me do an iPhone video as Fizbo saying I ordered it for Jesse,” he said.
The prank wasn’t over just yet, though. Ever the practical joker — especially on set — Stonestreet sent his assistant to a sex shop to purchase two other “gifts” so that Ferguson didn’t just have the one that eventually arrived, he had three.
“Jesse found this one entertaining. I’m the only single one and I’m the only one who wants to play practical jokes — everyone else is married, or tired. Nobody likes my hijinks!”
