The cast is stacked, the folklore is dark and the mystery runs deep. “YAGA” arrives on AMC+ on Oct. 23 with Carrie-Anne Moss, Noah Reid, Clark Backo and Hudson Williams in a provocative psychological thriller where modern mystery collides with dark supernatural forces. Here’s what to know before the premiere.

What ‘YAGA’ Is About

What begins as a routine missing-person investigation quickly descends into something far more sinister. As a private investigator arrives in a small coastal town to look into the disappearance of a wealthy student, he uncovers a web of secrets and finds himself drawn into a world of ancient witchcraft, power and seduction, where nothing is quite what it seems. The result is a sexy, deliciously strange mystery that keeps viewers guessing what’s real and what’s not.

The Cast Behind the Mystery

“YAGA” brings together an impressive ensemble of familiar faces from prestige television and film. Noah Reid, known for “Schitt’s Creek” and “Anne Rice’s The Vampire Lestat”, leads as the investigator Rapp. Carrie-Anne Moss, from “The Matrix” films and “Memento”, plays Katherine, a charismatic university professor with a taste for younger men. Clark Backo, seen in “The Changeling” and “Letterkenny”, plays Carson, a skeptical local detective. Hudson Williams of “Heated Rivalry” rounds out the central group with a dual role, playing missing student Henry Park and his lookalike roommate Logan.

Additional cast includes Sheila McCarthy, Megan Follows, Ezra Franky, Patrick Gilmore, Sam Krochmal and Georgia Acken.

The Legend That Inspired the Series: Meet Baba Yaga

“YAGA” draws inspiration from centuries-old legend Baba Yaga, the fearsome witch of Slavic folklore. The series is based on the hit play by showrunner and writer Kat Sandler, who has rewritten the familiar wicked-witch archetype for a modern audience—in her own words, “reshaping her as an incendiary feminist antihero for our time.”

Part supernatural mystery, part twisted tale of female power and revenge, “YAGA” is anything but your typical mystery drama.

Who’s Behind ‘YAGA’?

Kat Sandler serves as writer, showrunner and executive producer. Executive producers also include Mackenzie Donaldson (“Orphan Black,” “Snowpiercer”), Andrew Miller and Carrie-Anne Moss, who steps behind the scenes in addition to her onscreen role as Katherine.

Here’s How to Watch ‘YAGA’

The release schedule is built for both bingers and weekly watchers. The first two episodes debut Oct. 23 on AMC+, giving new viewers an immediate double dose to dive into the mystery. From there, episodes roll out weekly, with the story building toward a two-episode finale on Nov. 27.

YAGA streams exclusively on AMC+, so a subscription to the service is the only way to follow Rapp’s investigation as it unfolds. For fans of dark psychological thrillers, supernatural mysteries and stories filled with unexpected twists, YAGA has all the makings of your next binge-worthy obsession. Don’t miss the Oct. 23 double premiere.
