New ‘Fantastic Beasts’ Trailer Featuring Eddie Redmayne Reveals Magical Monsters

More magic and more monsters! A brand new Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them trailer debuted at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, July 23, sending Muggles everywhere into a frenzy.

The film’s director, David Yates, took the stage during the Warner Bros. panel on Saturday afternoon to introduce the cast of the movie, which was written by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling. After protagonist Eddie Redmayne, who plays Newt Scamander, was greeted by a roar of cheers from the audience, he started handing out magic wands to thousands of fans, with some help from Warner Bros. crew members.

“Everyone here is getting their own wand!” Comic-Con host Conan O’Brien said.

After Potterheads were instructed to point their wands at a screen on stage, the Fantastic Beasts trailer began to play. The teaser starts with Colin Farrell, who plays Auror Percival Graces, investigating the sudden arrival of several dangerous creatures in New York in the mid-1920s.

As fans know, and as is later revealed in the trailer, the so-called “fantastic beasts” escaped from a magical briefcase owned by none other than Newt (Redmayne). Although several promos for the upcoming movie have previously been released, the Comic-Con video gives viewers a first look at the beasts themselves.

Immediately after the clip was released online, wizardry enthusiasts took to Twitter to share their reactions.

“They show a Fantastic Beasts trailer that FINALLY makes me excited for that movie,” one user wrote on Saturday afternoon. “Cool vibe of magic running loose in the big city.”

Another fan added, “Saw new #FantasticBeasts trailer and they finally showed off some beasts. Looks like a fun adventure for those into the Potterverse stuff.”

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits theaters November 18.
