Livestreamed fashion shows are collapsing the gap between the runway and the register, creating a fashion show mall viewers can shop in real time. As Topshop, Marks & Spencer and other majors turn catwalks into shoppable events, boutique owners face a practical question about whether to adapt the model.

What Is the Fashion Show Mall Trend Turning Runways Into Instant Storefronts?

Shoppable runways link fashion-show livestreams to ecommerce, letting viewers buy the clothes as models walk. The approach extends “see now, buy now,” which closed the traditional gap between a runway debut and retail availability.

According to British Vogue, Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, Burberry and Topshop have all embraced immediately available runway collections, with Topshop releasing its collection on the catwalk, online and in stores at the same time. Vogue Business also reported on NYFW livestreams that let viewers shop or preorder pieces while shows were still running.

How Did Tommy Hilfiger’s Tommy Factory Sync Products With the Runway in Real Time?

Tommy Hilfiger’s Tommy Factory pushed the model further by syncing product listings with the show as it happened. Shoppers could identify and buy looks while models were still on the runway.

B Live says the setup dynamically updated products alongside the runway looks so viewers could purchase in real time. The runway shifts from a preview to a live product drop, adding inventory and fulfillment pressure.

How Is Topshop Using AI and Virtual Try-Ons at ‘Runway to the Future’?

Topshop’s “Runway to the Future” pairs a physical catwalk with an interactive app called Front Row AI that lets guests virtually try on outfits and buy the runway looks in real time.

ASOS says guests could virtually try on outfits and purchase runway looks as the show unfolded. The setup combines discovery, try-on and checkout in one flow.

Why Is Marks and Spencer Bringing ‘See Now, Buy Now’ to London Fashion Week?

Marks & Spencer is making its London Fashion Week debut with a shoppable runway where clothing from Collection, Per Una and Autograph will be available to buy the same day the show streams.

M&S says the runway will stream on Instagram and M&S.com while the pieces on the catwalk are available to purchase immediately. M&S describes the collection as “see now, buy now.” British Fashion Council CEO Laura Weir called the debut “a significant moment,” saying it shows how heritage, innovation and accessibility can connect British design with consumers “in new and relevant ways.” Unlike Topshop’s tech-heavy setup, the M&S version shows the concept can stay simple. Stream the runway and have the clothes ready to buy.

What Are the Challenges of the Fashion Show Mall Trend?

The tech may be instant, but the clothes still have to be ready when shoppers want them. Production, inventory, fulfillment and ecommerce all have to move at livestream speed.

Vogue Business says “see now, buy now” can require major changes to a brand’s production and supply chain. Tom Ford tried the model before abandoning it. British Vogue reported that the store shipping schedule did not align with the fashion-show schedule. For independent retailers weighing the model, the real challenge isn’t making a runway clickable. It’s making the retail operation move as fast as the livestream.
