"What a complete shock and surprise," FNL's executive producer Jason Katims told Us Weekly shortly after Thursday's nominations were announced. "I am beyond thrilled and excited for the Emmy nominations that [FNL] has received. It's like an episode of the show — a hail mary pass in the last seconds of the game. What a great moment to share with the crew, cast, writers, directors, producers, NBC, DirecTV — all who have contributed in a seminal way to this show that I'm so proud of."

Nominated a whopping 37 times previously, FNL has taken home one Emmy award — in 2007 — for the show's casting efforts. Katims and his team are hopeful that this year FNL's lead actors, Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton, will emerge victorious in their respective Emmy categories.

"I am so proud of Kyle and Connie for their much deserved recognition," Katims continues of the actors, who star as Coach Eric Taylor and his wife, Tami. "Individually, they have given extraordinary nuanced performances and together have created one of the sweetest and poignant depictions of marriage on television."

The show's Emmy recognition comes just days before FNL says goodbye forever, wrapping its fifth and final season Friday at 8 p.m. (EST) on NBC.
