As she scanned the star-studded red carpet at her first ever Golden Globe awards on Sunday, January 7, at the Beverly Hilton, Kelly Clarkson didn’t quite keep her cool.
The singer, 35, finished up an interview with Ryan Seacrest and gasped as she walked down the stairs, leading Seacrest to believe she had tripped. As it turns out, Clarkson was just ecstatic to see Meryl Streep a few feet away waiting to begin her own interview.

Clarkson exclaimed: “That’s Meryl!” To which Seacrest quipped: “My heart just stopped. I thought you just tripped down the stairs.”
As Clarkson made her way down the stairs, she caught the iconic actress’ attention. “Oh, my God, can I meet you?” the Grammy winner yelled. “I’m such a fan!”
Streep, 68, smiled and motioned for her to come over, as Clarkson continued: “I’ve adored you since I was, like, 8!”
Seacrest quickly introduced the two, who hugged upon meeting. The duo seemed to enjoy their brief meeting, as they held hands while they continued to converse.

Moments earlier, Clarkson chatted with Seacrest about the excitement of attending her first ever Golden Globes, where she will take the stage as a presenter. “I hear we can drink at this event, so I’m very excited,” she joked. “That’s why I’m invited!”
Streep, meanwhile, is attending the annual ceremony as a nominee for Best Actress, Motion Picture, Drama for The Post. Including Streep’s nod, the drama earned six total nominations.
The 75th Golden Globe Awards airs live from the International Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton on NBC at 8 p.m. ET.
