Hugh Jackman’s Real Steel Beats George Clooney’s Ides of March at Box Office

Real Steel is a knockout!

The Hugh Jackman film easily secured the top spot at the box office in its opening weekend.

The family flick, which costars Evangeline Lilly, debuted with an estimated $27.3 million, making it the second highest-grossing opening for a sports drama after 2009's The Blind Side.

George Clooney and Ryan Gosling's political thriller The Ides of March debuted with an estimated $10.4 million, putting it in second place.

Last week's box office winner, Dolphin Tale, fell to No. 3 with $9.2 million. It managed to stay ahead of Brad Pitt's Moneyball (No. 4, $7.5 million) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt's 50/50 (No. 5, $5.5 million).

Rounding out the Top 10: Courageous (No. 6, $4.6 million), The Lion King in 3D (No. 7, $4.55 million), Dream House (No. 8, $4.5 million), What's Your Number? (No. 9, $3.1 million) and Abduction (No. 10, $2.9 million).
