Oh, baby! Fall TV will get a major dose of OMG when the CW’s Jane the Virgin premieres October 13. On the series, loosely based on the Venezuelan telenovela of the same name, Jane (Gina Rodriguez) gets artificially inseminated by mistake during a routine doctor’s appointment when she’s pledged to remain abstinent until marrying her boyfriend, Michael (Brett Dier).
“What Jane chooses, [maintaining] her virginity, may not be one of the popular choices in life, but I think that’s a really awesome thing to put out in the world right now where we’re bombarded by twerking,” Rodriguez told reporters during a Television Critics Association event before her series premiered. “It’s going to be really exciting to go on this journey with Jane.”
Exciting is an understatement — if you ask Jane’s mom, Xiomara (Andrea Navedo). In a preview from the show’s premiere, Xiomara is rendered speechless and drops to her knees in prayer after two positive pregnancy tests confirm the big news.
