The pale, green haired villain dons a purple crocodile trench coat sans shirt, baring his abs and eerie body tattoos. He’s also wearing loose-fitting pajama pants that read “Arkham” — the asylum many of Batman’s foes, including the joker, escaped from — and going barefoot. Leto’s look is topped off with loads of black eye makeup to perfect the "psycho killer's" creepy signature stare.

To transform into the Prince of Crime, the Oscar winner admitted it took a mental and physical toll on him.

“There was definitely a period of detachment,” Leto said, according to ComicBookMovie.com. “I took a pretty deep dive. But this was a unique opportunity and I couldn’t imagine doing it another way. It was fun, playing those psychological games. But at the same time, it was very painful, like giving birth out of my prick hole.”

Costar Will Smith, who is portraying Deadshot, confirmed that Leto stayed in character throughout the entire process during a recent interview with Beats 1. “Not a single word [was] exchanged off-camera. He was all in on the Joker,” Smith revealed of the method character.

As previously reported, Leto even went as far as to send his costars Joker-like gifts, including mailing a rat to costar Margot Robbie, who is playing Harly Quinn.

Suicide Squad is due out August 2016.
