Have mercy! Full House could've looked very different if star John Stamos had gotten his way back in the day. The actor admitted to reporters on Thursday, Aug. 6, that, as suggested in the first clip released from Lifetime's Unauthorized Full House Story, he really did suggest producers replace Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen!
The first look from the Aug. 22 TV movie featured faux-Stamos (aka Miley Cyrus' ex Justin Gaston) complaining about how long it takes to film a scene thanks to the toddlers playing Michelle Tanner.
"It is sort of true that the Olsen twins cried a lot," the Full House star confessed on a panel discussing his new Fox fall show, Grandfathered. "It was very difficult to get the shot. So that is actually 100 percent accurate."
Full House producers acquiesced, but it didn't exactly work out. "They brought in a couple of unattractive redheaded kids," the actor, 51, dished. "We tried that for a while and that didn’t work. We were like, all right, get the Olsen twins back. And that’s the story!"
Stamos, a producer on Netflix's 13-episode reboot Fuller House, isn't mad about the Lifetime movie. "I find humor in all of it," he said. Plus, his new TV doppelganger, Gaston, has managed to capture Uncle Jesse's essence perfectly. "The guy is a good looking guy. Pretty dreamy."
Fuller House hits Netflix in 2016, The Unauthorized Full House Story debuts Aug. 22 on Lifetime, and Grandfathered premieres Sept. 29 on Fox.
