CBS released the first trailer for its new true crime docuseries, The Case of JonBenet Ramsey, on Tuesday, August 16. The limited six-hour series hopes to find out what really happened to Ramsey at her home on December 26, 1996.
Ramsey's murder has remained a mystery for nearly 20 years and continues to make national news. The 6-year-old beauty pageant contestant was found dead in her parents' basement in Boulder, Colorado.
Her parents, John and Patsy Ramsey, were initially suspects in the case, but were cleared because of DNA results in 2008. (Patsy died at age 49 in June 2006 after a battle with ovarian cancer.)
Specialists use advanced forensics and technology to revisit the tragedy in the series, and even have a replica of the Ramsey home created. Additionally, old footage and 911 phone calls from the case will be presented.
"This little girl's homicide to this date has not been resolved. In my opinion, I think we can change that right now," retired FBI special agent James Fitzgerald says in the clip.
Other investigators featured include retired FBI special agent Jim Clemente, forensic pathologist Dr. Werner Spitz, forensic scientist Dr. Henry Lee and James Kolar, the former chief investigation for the District Attorney in Boulder.
CBS previously released the special Perfect Murder, Perfect Town: JonBenét and the City of Boulder in 2000.
The Case of: JonBenet Ramsey will run in three two-hour installments over the course of one week. It premieres on Sunday, September 18, on CBS at 8:30 p.m. ET.
