Ah, Twitter. That mysterious vortex in which fans send celebrities heartfelt messages of love, only to receive cyber silence in return. But not in the case of Avengers director Joss Whedon.
The Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator has become a bit of a legend for his beloved TV series, including Buffy, the spin-off Angel, Firefly, and Dollhouse, not to mention his work in film, from serving as a writer on Toy Story to directing the blockbuster Avengers films.
Now Whedon has decided to give a little back to his die-hard fans on social media. The relative Twitter novice (he started up his account in May 2013, gasp!) responded to a follower named @ThoughtOtter, who simply tweeted the director’s name on July 5, telling another fan “I summoned him.”
Whedon replied, “okay what us your bidding DON’T WISH FOR MORE WISHES I’m onto that shit.”
Thankfully @ThoughtOtter bypassed the “more wishes” request, instead asking for “More Buffy the Vampire Slayer please.” Whedon then tweeted a photo of a napkin with a hand-drawn cartoon of the famed Slayer and a vamp, writing, “your wish is my command here ya go.”
In the sketch, Buff (played on the show by Sarah Michelle Gellar) is in a dress, which Whedon labeled “good fashion,” shouting “Pun!” and staking the vampire who loves her. The quippy writer pointed to the stake writing, “Metaphor.”
In the cartoon, titled “Firefly: The New Lame Drawing,” Captain Mal Reynolds (played on the show by Nathan Fillion) is surrounded by two of his faithful Browncoats.
Despite countless fan requests for new sketches, Whedon has kept his drawings down to those two. Fingers crossed for an Angel cartoon coming soon!
