We got chills, they’re multiplyin’ — because these new photos from Grease: Live are electrifyin’! With just a little over two months to go until the big event, Fox released the first pictures from its upcoming TV musical starring Julianne Hough, Aaron Tveit, and Vanessa Hudgens.
Hough, 27, is taking over the Sandy role made famous by Olivia Newton-John in the 1978 film classic, while Broadway vet Tveit is channeling his inner John Travolta to play Danny. In one photo of the two, the Dancing With the Stars judge rocks Sandy’s post-makeover black spandex, red heels, and wild curls as she cozies up to the Graceland actor, who looks the part in a tight black tee and black jeans.
Another pic shows the on-screen lovebirds with Hudgens, 26, who joined the cast as Rizzo this past August. Like Stockard Channing before her, the High School Musical alum sports a chic cropped ‘do, a black collared shirt, and a sexy calf-length pencil skirt.
A third promo shows Hough as a more demure version of Sandy, with straight blonde hair, a white ruffled blouse, and a full blue skirt.
“Grease is one of the movies that made me want to be an entertainer, and I have literally been waiting my whole life to play Sandy,” the Rock of Ages actress said in a statement back in January. “This is my dream role, and performing it live on television will be one of the most thrilling opportunities I’ve had in my career so far.”
Hudgens was similarly excited about joining the Rydell High crew. “Being Rizzo is something I’ve never imagined, and I love that because it will be a new challenge,” she said when the casting was first announced. “She is such an iconic character that continues to transcend generations…I’m going to be a Pink Lady!”
Grease: Live is set to air on Fox on Jan. 31, 2016, and also stars Keke Palmer (Marty), Carly Rae Jepsen (Frenchy), Carlos PenaVega (Kenickie), and Kether Donohue (Jan).
