Karen Pittman has one wish for The Morning Show viewers as they watch the final season unfold.
“I hope they experience the joy that we had,” Pittman, 51, exclusively told Us while attending the Rape Treatment Center and Stuart House at UCLA Health’s annual brunch on Sunday, September 27. “The joy we had as artists putting the story together — from carpenters to lights, photography, cameramen, writers, directors, hair, makeup — I think we all try to tell the best story by doing our very, very best work.”
While trying to hold back tears, the actress added, “I hope people can get that when they watch the show — how much we love working together, and how much love we put into our storytelling.”
In July, Apple TV+ confirmed that the upcoming fifth season of the Emmy Award-winning comedy-drama series will be its last.
Pittman plays Mia Jordan, a powerful and resilient executive producer who navigates corporate politics, race and media leadership at a time of cultural and political turmoil.
“I think having women at the top of our show — writing the show, women centered on the show — really makes a difference in how you talk about the things that women go through,” Pittman explained to Us at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles. “The last five seasons, I think the thing that stands out to me is just how women are building relationships in television, news media, the ups and downs of it. It’s more than just about men. It’s really about how we bond with each other, and how we create space for each other. I think that’s been one of the most important things that The Morning Show will leave as we end our series.”
Sunday’s event honored the cast of The Morning Show, with Mark Duplass, June Diane Raphael, Holland Taylor, Shari Belafonte, Victoria Tate, Rachel Marsh and Hannah Leder also in attendance to lend their voices in support of sexual assault and rape survivors while spotlighting the life-changing work of the Rape Treatment Center and Stuart House.
“We’re still having conversations about what it means to be a woman, sexual violence, how to protect women, how to bring about justice,” Pittman said about The Morning Show’s important themes. “I’m really honored to be here with the Rape Treatment Center and the Stuart House. It’s just another opportunity to highlight how important this conversation is for us to keep having it, and I’m grateful to have been a part of a show that put this conversation into the culture.”
While plot lines for season 5 remain top secret, several cast members have shared how proud they are and will forever be when it comes to their work on the series.
“The writers — I can’t believe what the writers have accomplished with this cast,” Taylor, 83, told Us. “The themes that they have tackled are very dazzling. It’s a very courageous show. I’m proud to have been part of it.”
As for Belafonte, 72, she is confident new and old fans will like what they see in the final season.
“[My wish is] that they would realize how great a show it has been the entire five seasons,” the actress told Us. “The fifth season won’t disappoint. And that they all ask for a revival with [my character] Julia.”
