Khloé Kardashian is defending her family amid backlash over a bizarre Kardashians clip that used AI versions of themselves to reveal their stance against being replaced … by AI.
“WATCH UNTIL THE END,” Khloé, 42, wrote via Instagram on Thursday, October 8, alongside the controversial scene, which opened season 8 of The Kardashians. “Seeing people comment while only watching the first few seconds is frustrating but also typical these days 🤭🤭.”
The scene showed believable yet slightly uncanny versions of the Kardashians adventuring in various parts of the world while offering some slightly out-of-touch commentary. Momager Kris Jenner, 70, lounged on a yacht in the south of France while scolding someone on the phone about meeting deadlines. Kourtney, 47, accepted a traditional matcha in Japan while noting that her husband, Travis Barker, “makes the best matcha.” Khloé observed elephants on an African safari while telling her drivers that her “family group chats are way more dangerous.”
Kendall Jenner, 30, and Kylie Jenner, 29, attended a lavish party in Versailles, where Kylie noted that it was the “most normal thing” she had done “all month.” Finally, Kim, 45, was seen skiing at a Swiss ski chalet, where she received a text about The Kardashians season 8.
The family then raced home to reunite in Calabasas, California, where they experienced a series of unusual transformations. Kourtney’s face turned into a giant red toenail, while Kylie grew a tail. Kim’s ear turned into a nose, while Khloé’s eye and Kris’ hands doubled in size. The real versions of the Kardashians then walked into the room and confronted their AI counterparts.
“Wait, are we AI? Have we been AI this whole time?” real Kim said.
“I think we would know if we were AI, Kimberly,” real Kourtney responded, while fake Kourtney chimed in, “Yeah, Kimberly, I think we would know.”
“You’re a thumb!” real Kris clapped back.
Fake Kris then argued that the AI versions of the family members are “easier” because there are no “scheduling conflicts, no glam is necessary and we can cry on cue without messing up our makeup.”
Real Kris said her “real family cannot be replaced.”
“I think it’s time for these AI bitches to go,” Khloé added before hitting a kill switch that melted the AI-generated family.
“AI could never replace us,” Kourtney concluded.
Despite the family’s apparent anti-AI stance, critics argued in the comments that they didn’t have to use AI to make their point. (AI has become controversial due to its environmental impact, as large data centers require large amounts of energy and water. Other debates center around using AI to spread misinformation and replace jobs.)
“So how many gallons of freshwater were wasted for this AI video???” one user wrote, while another person commented, “You still used AI, making the product something NOT WANTED, NOT NEEDED. the joke doesnt land, get in touch with the reason why.”
