What do you get when you combine art and pop music? Lady Gaga's racy new ARTPOP album cover! The 27-year-old "Applause" singer released the official cover image for her upcoming third studio album.
"FULL ARTPOP ALBUM COVER.'One second I'm a Koons, then suddenly the Koons is me!' #ApplauseJeffKoons," she captioned the photo on Twitter Monday, Oct. 7, crediting iconic American artist Jeff Koons for his design.
On the cover, Gaga poses naked with a big blue ball between her legs and her hands holding her breasts with her hands — surrounded by kaleidoscopic images of Botticelli's Birth of Venus. Keeping with Koons' style, the cover almost looks like a CGI rendering of Gaga.
Gaga had a lot of anxiety about releasing the cover art to her fans. "I'm nervous and excited to share something that's such a piece of my heart," she tweeted Monday. "Something I cherish deeply. A real depiction of my mind through his."
Gaga teased her fans by having them get #iHeartARTPOP trending on Twitter first before revealing the cover, but the tactic seemed to only make her more anxious. "I'll be in the bathroom throwing up #iHeartPanicAttack #WheresMyInhaler," she wrote. "Full fetal position does anyone else hear the screams in my head #iHeartARTPOP."
Along with the cover, the "Born This Way" singer shared an additional surprise. "The center image of me is a new Jeff Koons sculpture to be exhibited nov.10 at the artRAVE ARTPOP's release party!" she announced, adding, "Please welcome Jeff Koons into our family and shower him with love for the the talents he has shared with us. A pure and genuine collaborator."
