As Landman prepares to finally start production on season 3, the hit show is expanding with the introduction of a new character — played by someone from the Lioness cast.

Paramount+ confirmed on Wednesday, September 9, that Michael Kelly is joining season 3 of Landman. The actor, 57, who plays Byron on Lioness, will portray William Crockett, “the leader of the largest oil management firm in the world.” William is “a titan of industry and everything about him exudes efficiency and money,” according to the official character description.

Kelly previously told Us that he was a major fan of Landman, sharing in July, “I f***ing love Landman. I love Billy Bob Thornton. I love Sam [Elliott]. It’s just such a fun show. My wife [Karyn Kelly] and I eat that one up, man. That’s a good time.”

At the time, Kelly gushed about his experience working on Taylor Sheridan shows.

“Just to collaborate with Taylor Sheridan, I consider him to be one of our best writers ever. Nobody has ever done what he’s doing right now,” he said. “Nope, it’s never happened. I don’t know that anyone’s ever had six hit TV shows — let alone six hit TV shows at once. This is unprecedented, and I consider myself very fortunate to be working with one of the best to ever do it.”

Kelly called his time on Lioness a “freaking dream,” adding, “And then you get to go do all that fun cowboy s***. I go ride horses, and I did the cutting competition on horseback. I’d never done that before. And they’re like, ‘All right, go train.’ And so I went and they put me with a horse trainer and I rode a horse and learned how to do it. And it’s just being there in Fort Worth too. I feel very, very grateful to be a part of his world in any way, shape or form.”

Based on the “Boomtown” podcast, Landman is Sheridan’s newest hit series, joining the ranks of Yellowstone, Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, Lawmen: Bass Reeves and Lioness. The hit Paramount+ series introduced Thornton as a corporate fixer working for an oil titan in a West Texas-set drama with life-and-death stakes.

Landman premiered in November 2024 after filming began in Texas early that year. Production on season 2 started in April 2025 and ended that August, with the episodes airing in November 2025.

Season 3, however, has been dealing with changes. While filming was originally scheduled for May, it got pushed to three months later. Production was delayed again, with the new start date seemingly planned for late September.

“I’ve only gotten one [script]. Taylor is in the thick of it as we speak. He’s writing season 2 as we speak,” James Jordan exclusively told Us last month. “All I’ll tell you is it’s going to be a heck of a ride.”

Jordan, 47, hinted that there won’t be a time jump.

“We pick up where we left off, and I’m just as excited as you are to see where this story goes. We’re going to get to work,” he continued. “We start work here in about three weeks, and we’re going to pump out a great new season for folks.”

While Jordan didn’t have any inside information, he did speculate on a possible return, adding, “The way they edit nowadays, the turnaround is so quick. We might be on the air before the end of the year. I certainly hope so. That little holiday window that we’ve had the last two seasons around Thanksgiving through the end of the year, I think that’s just such a perfect window for Landman.”

He added: “Hopefully we’ll get back to work sooner than later and get the story back out for folks because we love telling it and we love that people are showing up, man. It’s such a riot.”
