The Detroit Lions have issued a new official statement concerning the wellbeing of their star linebacker Jack Campbell amid his hospitalization following a potentially terrifying neck injury.
“Jack Campbell is resting and will remain in a local hospital tonight, for continued evaluation and monitoring,” the team announced in a written statement shared via their official X account on Sunday, November 1. “The team will provide updates as we have them.”
Campbell, 26, was seemingly “immobilized” following what appeared to be a relatively normal tackle against Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson on Sunday during his team’s 19-15 victory over the Vikings.
After the Lions’ athletic training staff swarmed the linebacker — who did not appear to be able to move after his initial fall — and quickly rendered aid, the athlete was carefully moved onto a backboard and carted off the field. An audible hush went over the crowd at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan, as fans watched on.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell gave a solemn and brief update on the all-pro player’s condition during a press conference shortly after the team’s emotional victory, relaying that the organization would update the press and fans alike as new information regarding the linebacker’s condition became available.

“Let me start with this: You know, thoughts and prayers are with Jack and his family,” Dan, 50, told reporters at the time and before taking questions on the team’s Sunday performance, which handed the Vikings their first 2026-2027 loss.
“He’s being taken care of — we don’t have any new information,” the head coach continued. “We’ll keep you updated as this goes, um, but we’re thinking of him.”
An audibly emotional Erin Andrews reported from the sideline shortly after Jack was carted off the field, sharing what one member of the team said about how important the linebacker is to the organization while seeming fighting back tears.
“He said, ‘This is Jack Campbell’s defense. I don’t hesitate to say that it goes through him and everyone in that locker room knows that,” Andrews, 48, said. “Point blank period.”
Both Vikings and Lions players were visibly emotional in the wake of the incident, with many taking a knee until Jack was carted off the field and others wiping tears from their eyes before retaking the field and resuming play.
“Heavy emotions in Detroit,” Michigan Sportscaster Brad Galli wrote via X after his initial post regarding the incident. “All the Lions players and coaches surrounded Jack Campbell before he was carted off at Ford Field.”
