Where oh where have the lost scenes gone? Fans have recently noticed that hit ABC drama series Lost is missing a whopping 18 minutes from its finale in the version streamed on Netflix — and Damon Lindelof, the showrunner and co-creator of the show, is feeling pretty bummed.

“I haven’t watched the finale since it aired, but the fact that viewers bingeing Lost for the first time don’t get to hear Miles’ ‘duct tape’ line, not to mention many, MANY other moments, makes me want to cry harder than Jack Shepard. And that guy can cry,” Lindelof told E! News.

Lindelof — who created the show with Carlton Cuse in 2004 — initially told Entertainment Weekly, which first noted the scene omissions, that he was “befuddled” by the shortened finale.

“Love it or hate it, the finale that aired is the definitive finale and to alter it in any way defies explanation,” he said in a statement, adding that Netflix was most likely not at fault. (The Twitter handle for the streaming service began to respond to concerned viewers later in the day.)

The writer-producer, who currently works on the HBO series The Leftovers, added that despite what Lost fans might read into the truncated episodes, he has no plans to spin out an alternate ending. (The last moments of the show were controversial, causing an uproar when the final episode aired in May 2010.)

“I have no intention of ‘changing’ nor Special Editioning the finale… we continue to stand by it, but this is a fix that needs to happen, so at least people can love or hate it in its entirety,” he said to EW.

Avid fans of the mystery-filled series noticed that the two-part finale is missing several integral scenes, and have voiced their distress on Reddit.

“Just finished a re-watch of the show on Netflix,” one user began the thread. “Has anyone else noticed that there are scenes missing from the series finale?”

Lost, which revolved around the lives of the survivors of a plane crash, aired for six seasons from 2004 to 2010.
