Mariah Carey Has Footage of Boyfriend Bryan Tanaka Added to ‘Mariah’s World’

Mariah’s World has a replacement “Dreamlover.” Mariah Carey’s backup dancer boyfriend, Bryan Tanaka, has scored a lot more airtime in her E! docuseries, a source reveals in the new issue of Us Weekly. In the wake of her October split from billionaire fiancé James Packer, the singer’s team had producers reedit all eight episodes “so James is barely in it,” claims the source. In Packer’s place, scenes from the cutting-room floor featuring Carey flirting with Tanaka, 33, were reinserted. And to further the story line, fresh footage of the duo cavorting, including a Thanksgiving ocean romp in Hawaii, was quickly shot. “They want the focus of the show to be Mariah finding love, not getting dumped,” says the insider.

Mariah’s World watchers have already gotten a glimpse of the simmering romantic tension between Carey and Tanaka. In a recently aired episode, Tanaka paid a visit to Mimi’s dressing room, where she coquettishly offered him a beer, saying he’ll get drunk faster if he drank it with a straw. Tanaka also gushed in a confessional, “She’s always been supportive of me as a dancer … as a person.”

And he had plenty more to say at the premiere for the show, where he told E! about his feelings for the Vision of Love singer.

“I’ve always had a thing for Mariah. I love her so much,” Tanaka enthused. “Just make sure you tune in to the show, and you’ll see kind of how everything happens. … We’ve been friends for a long time. I do a little dance move here and there, and we have a good time.”

There are six episodes left to go on the show, which is billed as a docuseries. Sources say Carey’s handlers pitched the project as a “documentary” to persuade her to sign on. “Mariah didn’t want to do a reality show,” notes the source. “She thought a doc would be classy.”
