Mary Bonnet is reacting to speculation that she was fired after her Selling Sunset exit.
“I’m not fired to make that clear,” Mary, 45, told Inman News in a social media clip posted on Monday, June 1. “I’m very much still the Vice President at the Oppenheim Group. I’m still very much a part of the Oppenheim Group and doing real estate and best friends with Jason [Oppenheim].”
She continued, “Nothing is going to change that. It’s simply the show and the vision of it. I want it to be more women empowerment and not what it has been.”
Us Weekly confirmed in May that Mary, Emma Hernan and Sandra Vergara, the sister of Sofía Vergara, exited the Netflix reality series.
A source exclusively told Us at the time that the cast is most “shocked” by the news of Mary leaving, explaining that she “thinks it’s best for her mental health right now” to take a step back and focus on “her business and other projects.”
Earlier this year, Mary hinted at her exit from the show while appearing on the “Casual Chaos” podcast.
“It depends on the dynamic in the office, honestly,” she said in January, when asked about returning. “It depends on the level of toxicity that they’re allowing.”
Mary explained at the time that she would keep her role at the Oppenheim Group and “just not be on the show.”
“It depends on the level of toxicity that they’re allowing,” she added, sharing that she feels like “everyone’s on the same page” with the dynamic between the women.
“It’s too much right now. What’s going to happen? I don’t have control over any of that. That’s for our producers and Netflix,” Mary continued. “Jason has control over who works at the Oppenheim Group, but he doesn’t have control over who’s on the show.”
Alongside the trio of women, Alanna Gold also announced via Instagram that she would be departing from the show. It was previously confirmed that Nicole Young, Chelsea Lazkani and Chrishell Stause would also be exiting Selling Sunset.
Us broke the news in May that Selling Sunset would have a major cast shakeup for season 10, with Christine Quinn and Heather Rae El Moussa returning to the series. For Jason, having some previous cast members return is something he’s looking forward to.
“I love those two, I love having some OGs back,” he said during a May interview with TMZ. “I think this season’s going to be awesome. I’m really, honestly, looking forward to it
He continued, “Everyone loves Heather, come on. Christine, I think, was great for the show. I think she was one of the salient reasons that the show did so well and blew up. She deserves a lot of credit for that.”
