What Winning American Idol Means to Him: "I think it comes with a big responsibility, partly to produce good music," he told Us Weekly backstage after the top 4 performed. "I think it would be a shame if someone won American Idol and then put out music that sounds like everything else."

He continued, "As a winner, it’s important to produce good music, but also to produce good habits as an example to everybody. It doesn’t matter what your philosophy or what your thoughts are on your responsibility to be a good role model for kids, it’s just a fact. Kids are looking at you. For me, the American Idol is somebody who has a huge responsibility to show what life is about. It’s a big weight to take on but I would be honored if America would let me take on that weight."

What His Winning Moment Would Look Like: "I do remember when I made it to the top 24, I started looking up past Idol performances and I watched Phillip Phillips. I remember watching when he won and he kind of broke down and the confetti and seeing his family — I was getting emotional watching it," he told Us. "And that’s what I think about — I think of my family. I think of my mom and my dad. It takes a lot to get me emotional but just thinking of that is what I think of. My parents’ faces, that would be what I’m thinking of."

The American Idol season 14 winner will be crowned at the end of the finale, airing at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
