World, meet Jackie O. Natalie Portman transforms into the late first lady in Pablo Larraín’s critically acclaimed biopic Jackie. In the first trailer for the upcoming film, released on Wednesday, October 5, 35-year-old Portman offers a mesmerizingly convincing portrayal of JFK’s wife.
The trailer opens with Jackie riding inside a car and looking somber while taking in the thousands of people who gathered for John F. Kennedy’s funeral procession in 1963 as Richard Harris’ “Camelot” plays.
The trailer features other flashbacks to the assassination of JFK. Portman, dressed in Jackie’s signature style, celebrates their son’s third birthday before she’s seen washing off the late president’s blood that splattered on her following the shooting, and kissing JFK’s flag-draped coffin.
The Oscar winner is also shown in character drinking and smoking, as well as arguing with her brother-in-law Robert Kennedy (played by Peter Sarsgaard) in the White House.
The film, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival, focuses on the icon’s first days following JFK’s assassination.
Watch the trailer above. Jackie is set to hit theaters on December 2.
