Will they or won’t they? That’s the question on New Girl fans’ minds ahead of season 2’s Tuesday premiere, given the fact that the sexual tension between Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Nick (Jake Johnson) has reached its peak.
Though many fans may hope to see roommates Jess and Nick hook up this season, series star Deschanel, 32, isn’t convinced its the best idea. “If you get them together, then all of a sudden that’s a little bit boring,” Deschanel reasoned to Us Weekly. “I love the dynamic between Jess and Nick, so I want it to stay interesting. It’s more fun to have that tension.”
Johnson, however, is really rooting for his character — who’s on his way to becoming a ladies’ man in season 2 — to seal the deal with Jess. “Nick really likes her! So as an actor and for my character I think it would be really fun to do,” enthuses Johnson, 34. “I hope it happens.”
While it remains to be seen if Nick will fully pursue Jess, New Girl‘s Johnson tells Us his character will certainly be on the prowl during the new batch of episodes. “He becomes a bit of a ladies’ man! A lot of ladies,” hints Johnson. “Unsuccessfully in the end, but he goes through a new period and asks Schmidt for advice! He realizes he doesn’t know what he’s doing.”
