The Night's Watch? Meet the Queen's Guard! During the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace last Tuesday, July 15, Queen Elizabeth II's Irish Regiment performed a cover of the beloved theme song of HBO's Game of Thrones.
A tourist filmed the moment of the red-coated bearskin-wearing guards using percussion and brass instruments to recreate the opening credits theme—minus those dramatic strings—in perfect unison.
Their musical tribute to the smash Emmy-nominated drama comes nearly one month after the British ruler herself visited the Game of Thrones set in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Joined by her husband Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth, 88, met the show's creators along with main cast members Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), and more.
The Queen, however, refused to sit down on the hulking Iron Throne, where previous rulers—after sitting on the chair—eventually met their deaths. Instead, Prince William's grandmother delicately held a recreation of the spiky throne in her hands.
