Samuel L. Jackson Performs Boy Meets World Poetry Slam on Tonight Show

Nick Fury meets Mr. Feeny! Captain America star Samuel L. Jackson appeared on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon Tuesday, April 1, where he performed an impressive and hilarious poetry slam of ’90s sitcom Boy Meets World.

After taking a puff from his cigarette, 65-year-old Jackson — resembling a beatnik poet with his beret, matching sweater, and black-frame glasses — delivered the opening line, “Boy meets world, boy greets world.” The legendary actor continued by expertly launching into a full poetry slam. “Hello, world! I’m Cory Matthews — short and average head full of curls,” Jackson continued.

“The year? 1993. We see two boys who lack both brains and brawn… Cory Matthews and Hunter, a hunter comma Shawn.” Jackson added of Rider Strong‘s character, “Hair parted down the middle, jacket made of leather. Alas, one man’s trailer trash is another man’s treasure.”

Beloved sitcom Boy Meets World, starring Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel, may have ended back in 2000, but its spinoff series Girl Meets World was picked up last June by the Disney Channel. The new show will chronicle the life of Riley Matthews, the middle-school aged daughter of Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence, who were central characters in the original series. Both Savage and Fishel will return to their respective roles, along with several other show staples.
