Shawn Hatosy Discusses Mohan–Abbot Connection on ‘The Pitt’ After Supriya Ganesh’s Departure

The Mohan and Abbot connection on The Pitt was real — not just something the fans ran with.

Shawn Hatosy (Abbot) hinted that the tension between his character and Supriya Ganesh’s Mohan “wasn’t made up” in an interview with Variety published on Monday, June 8.

“Supriya and I were told we don’t know exactly what it is, but there’s something there, and you could see it in the writing,” he recalled. “We didn’t explore it and having something behind it really energizes this attraction, or whatever you call it.”

Ganesh, 28, was also interviewed for the Variety feature and said the Mohan–Abbot connection wasn’t something she initially believed in.

“I just remember being like, ‘There’s no way,’” she said. “The more I thought about it, I thought, I do kind of see it. They’re both really lonely, they’re both really stunted in their own ways. They both pour a lot of themselves into work. I think they really understand each other because of that.”

Hatosy was actually the first cast member to hint at a possible love story between the two during a May 2025 interview with Variety.

“There’s one line in the first episode that got cut, where somebody makes a comment that she’s slow, and I say, ‘She’s the smartest person here.’ And just from that, I feel like it was definitely, in my opinion, heading in a direction,” Hatosy recalled. “I think he likes her, if I’m being honest, only because of what I read.”

Viewers hoped for more from Mohan and Abbot after that season 2 scene where she tended to the shirtless doctor after he was grazed by a bullet. But with Ganesh’s recently announced departure from the show, it’s unclear what the future holds for the two characters.

When The Pitt season 2 came to an end earlier this year, it was obvious that Ganesh was written out — for now, at least. She spoke candidly about the online reaction to her departure in an interview with Variety last month.

“I tried to take a step away, because it’s just been so surreal,” she said. “The day that news broke, I saw my name was trending on Twitter, and I was like, ‘Gotta put the phone down and go outside.’ So, I haven’t really been keeping track of it, to be honest, but I’ve been getting such sweet, lovely messages from people, and I’ve honestly just been surprised at how much people love the character and saw so much of themselves in her, and that’s what I’m going to miss.”

In her absence, a new love interest for Abbot has possibly entered the chat. Fans can totally see the doctor shacking up with Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi (Sepideh Moafi).

“Abbot seems to have a relationship with everybody, because he’s just a bit of a flirt,” Hatosy, 50, told Variety on Monday. “At least in my understanding of Abbot, I think he’s still dealing with the grief of losing his wife, so that he hasn’t really gone there yet. But sure, maybe it’s Al-Hashimi. Who knows?”
