Smash Mouth Singer Promises to “Beat the F–k Out of” Bread-Throwing Fan

Far from all-star behavior! One spectator at Colorado’s Taste of Fort Collins festival crossed the line during Smash Mouth’s show on Sunday, June 14, and was met with an expletive-filled rant after he took his heckling too far.

According to New York magazine’s Vulture, bread was readily available at the food and music festival from a vendor, and one fan chose not to eat the free carbs, but rather, threw them directly at frontman Steve Harwell and his bandmates.

Harwell, 48, finally lost his temper with the fan’s outlandish behavior, and abandoned the lyrics to his pop-rock song to launch into a tirade against the heckler.

“You throw one more piece of s–t on the f–king stage, I’m gonna come find your ass, I’m gonna beat your ass, whoever the f–k you are,” the musician yelled into his mic. “Walk your badass up here, come on stage, badass… You bring your ass onstage, whoever is throwing s–t at me, and I will tell you right now, I’m gonna beat the f–k out of you.”

“You’re ruining the show for thousands of people right now,” Harwell continued to his unidentified nemesis. “I’m gonna walk offstage and guess what? You’re paying for it, motherf–ker.”

The band continued to groove and security got involved as Harwell repeatedly taunted, “Somebody throw something at me!” The members of the audience then took it upon themselves to belt the lyrics to the band’s hit 1999 song “All Star” as the singer fumed.
