Caskett shippers rejoice, for we have some great news! The day after the season 7 finale of Castle aired on ABC, the show’s star Stana Katic, who plays the feisty Detective Kate Beckett, re-signed her contract to stay on the hit crime procedural. (Nathan Fillion who plays mystery writer Richard Castle had already re-signed his contract.)

Entertainment Weekly broke the news, and also quoted ABC President Paul Lee saying that he’d like to see the show continue “for many years to come.”

This message was surely to assure the die-hard fans after show creators Andrew Marlowe and his wife Terri Edda Miller announced that they would be exiting the hit series after season 7.

Marlowe took to Twitter on May 12, posting a note from the couple.

“There is a universal truth we all have to face, whether we want to or not…Everything eventually ends,” they wrote. “As much as I’ve looked forward to this day, I’ve always disliked endings… Today is one of those days for us. Today we say goodbye to everything that was familiar, everything that was comfortable. We’re moving on. But just because we’re leaving, and that hurts, there are some people who are so much a part of us, that they’ll be with us no matter where we are. They are our solid ground, our north stars, and the small clear voices in our hearts that will be with us…Always. Andrew Marlowe & Terri Miller.”

Marlowe and Miller are being replaced by Castle writer Terence Paul Winter and The Following’s Alexi Hawley as co-showrunners. David Amann had taken over some of Marlowe’s duties in season 7.

In the May 11 finale of season 7, Castle revealed the crime that led him to becoming a novelist, and Beckett was left with a decision as to whether to run for New York State Senate or to captain her own precinct.

After assuring Us Weekly in a recent interview that they would never kill off Beckett, Miller laid out her vision for the future of the crime-fighting couple.

“We see them together and enjoying life and enjoying adventures,” Miller said. “And I would be interested to find out if the time traveler was right about the things he said, if he truly was a time traveler,” she added, referencing the season 6 episode “Time Will Tell.”
