Get ready to meet The Giver! The new trailer for the upcoming adaption of Lois Lowry‘s celebrated 1993 YA novel is here and it is a stunner.
The latest look at the film opens in black-and-white, to the sound of Meryl Streep‘s voice. Streep stars in the film as the Chief Elder, the powerful figure who rules over the futuristic dystopian society.
“From great suffering came a solution: communities,” Streep as Chief Elder says in the clip. “Serene, beautiful places, where disorder became harmony.”
The preview proceeds to introduce rising star Brenton Thwaites as the young man Jonas, who begins to question the structure of society and gets exposed to the world before the strict order. He pals around with a young woman Fiona (Odeya Rush) and eventually finds his way to The Giver.
Oscar winner Jeff Bridges takes on the role of The Giver, the man in society who keeps the memories of the outside world and intelligent knowledge.
As Jonas learns more about the society, he becomes a risk to the order.
“When people have the freedom to choose, they choose wrong,” Streep warns in the preview.
Also starring Katie Holmes, Alexander Skarsgård, and Taylor Swift, The Giver will hit theaters on August 15.
