The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is back for a season 6 after a tumultuous year.
“We’re not done with season 5, and we’re filming for season 6 right now,” cast member Layla Taylor said on the Wednesday, August 5, episode of Hulu’s “Get Real” podcast.
Layla’s comments come days after she was spotted filming in Montana with several of her costars. On the Wednesday podcast, Layla, 25, weighed in on the show’s filming schedule and admitted that she feels “exhausted.”
“But honestly, it makes sense,” she explained of the timeline. “It’s so hard. We have this battle that we — all of us girls talk about. When we’re not filming, I miss it. And I honestly get kind of bored and so much happens too conveniently when the cameras go down. So, it’s like at this point, just let’s just film the whole year.”
Hulu has renewed the hit series for 20 more episodes, which will span across seasons 6 and 7, according to Deadline.
Layla’s update comes ahead of Hulu releasing season 5 of the reality TV series, which halted production earlier this year amid a domestic incident between Taylor Frankie Paul and Dakota Mortensen. (The Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office ultimately declined to press charges against Taylor, 32.)
In April, Us confirmed that the series was set to resume production on season 5. Whitney Leavitt, who announced her departure from the series after season 5, previously gave insight into the series’ filming timeline.
“It’s not completely wrapped up. We just need to finish out the season, which will finish soon, and then that’ll be my last one,” Whitney, 33, said on Trisha Paytas’ “Just Trish” podcast in June.
Whitney’s husband, Conner Leavitt, claimed at the time that the streaming platform “cut the season short … five episodes only.”
“They’re having everyone go back to basically do interviews, wrap up a couple of things,” Conner added. “I think that’ll be a very abbreviated season considering all the things that happened publicly.”
The following month, a source confirmed to Us that Taylor would shoot scenes for season 5’s opening montage in the next few days but was not expected to film anything else at the time. The insider shared that Taylor would be filming her montage scenes separately from the rest of the cast.
That same month, Taylor ruffled feathers among her costars for changing her Instagram bio to read, “Creator of Momtok + SLOMW 🩵 The Bachelorette 🌹Jesus is king🤍.”
Whitney seemingly revealed her thoughts on Taylor’s title at the time. “How it feels being ‘creator’ of MomTok & SLOMW,” Whitney wrote over an Instagram video of her lip-syncing the viral audio, “I didn’t have a pen and paper. I got to the mic and I’m like, ‘Oh, press record. Ah, ah, ah.’”
Whitney lowered her sunglasses to wink at the camera at the end of the clip, before adding in the caption, “It’s not founding mother…it’s founding motherSSSSS 😉.”
Hulu has yet to announce a premiere date for Mormon Wives season 5 or 6.
