Watch out for zombies, Los Angeles! The Walking Dead is headed to the City of Angels in a spin-off series that will follow a new group of people affected by the zombie plague in California.
AMC announced March 9 that it had picked up not one but two seasons of the new series, which will debut its six-episode first season in late summer 2015. The companion series will star Cliff Curtis (Gang Related), Kim Dickens (Gone Girl), Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince), and Alycia Debnam Carey (Into the Storm) as new characters and will focus on story lines within the established Walking Dead universe.
The new, as-yet-untitled show is being presented as a companion series because it will be able to show different aspects of the world post-zombie apocalypse.
"We take incredibly seriously the notion of building a satisfying companion series to the number one show on television," AMC president Charlie Collier said in a release. "From the beginning of The Walking Dead on AMC, we've been asked questions about what was going on in other parts of the zombie apocalypse, and what it looked like as the world really did 'turn.' Through this new series, we’re going to find out."
Season 2 will premiere in 2016. The Walking Dead season 5 finale airs March 29 at 9 p.m. on AMC.
