Grab the tissues, since the holiday season won’t just be comfort and joy! This Is Us‘ Tuesday, November 15, episode featured Kate (Chrissy Metz) catching Toby (Chris Sullivan) during a binge-eating session and telling him she didn’t know how to make their relationship work. Clearly, we needed answers.
Luckily, Metz is here to provide them. The American Horror Story: Freak Show alum, 37, spoke to Us Weekly exclusively at the HFPA Celebration of the 2017 Golden Globe Awards, sponsored by Fiji Water. At the event, she dropped five big bombshells to Us, including that Kate is about to make two life-altering decisions and viewers’ opinions may soon change about Toby.
Secrets may cause friction between Kate and Toby.
As their relationship unfolds, the two learn more about each other, ultimately putting their relationship to the test. “Things come out, and people have skeletons in the closet and things that we’re contending with,” Metz reveals. “So you’ll see that affect her relationship for sure.”
You might grow to like Toby less than you expect.
At the moment, Toby basically seems like the most perfect boyfriend ever — but that may not last forever. When asked why Kate is so hard on Toby, the actress says, “He is trying really hard [to be a good boyfriend]! But you know what? Keep watching. You might think differently — who knows!”
New job, new drama.
After Kate’s new boss, Marin (Jami Gertz), hired her with the intention of guiding Marin’s overweight daughter, it was clear this plan had some kinks. And fans will see more workplace drama in episodes to come. “Kate will remotely be working for Marin [during the holidays], and so I think that maybe [Marin’s daughter] will be coming back,” Metz teases.
There’s more family conflict on the horizon.
According to Metz, the upcoming Thanksgiving episode will reveal some serious new family drama: “When families get together, everything bubbles up to the surface, and it’s all heightened because it’s the holidays. You’re supposed to just mind your p’s and q’s, but there’s a lot going on in the family that we haven’t really seen yet.”
Kate will face some major decisions.
Kate’s journey of self-discovery will continue to develop, leading to some tough choices. “I will say Kate’s going to make two very big decisions that are really going to affect her and will affect the family,” Metz says.
Tell Us: What do you think Kate’s big decisions are?
