This is the Macy Gray we all know and love! Now that the "I Try" singer and mom of three is done with Dancing With the Stars, she's back to music and it sho' is nice to see her again!
In the sparkling, Adria Petty-directed video for her comeback single, "Beauty In the World," my old pal (we go way back to her first CD, 1999's On How Life Is, where she thanked me in the liner notes!) croons with her patented raspy voice that could melt the most jaded hearts — and make the homeless section of an L.A. alley spring to life, as you will see! The lead single off The Sellout, her first CD in three years (out June 22), "Beauty In the World" is already set to be one of the songs of summer! I already have a copy of the album and can't turn it off.
"The Sellout tells the story of how I found my salvation in just being myself instead of who other people thought I should be," the singer says. "I had got to a place in my career where I tried everything that was asked of me and in doing so I lost sight of who Macy Gray really is. I spent over a year making this album without any pressure or opinions and being able to choose the co-writers, producers and artists that felt good to me. As a result, it really reflects my true identity. I feel like I have finally made the album I was capable of and that my fans wanted. These are some of my favorite songs that I've written."
