Chills. The first trailer for Lifetime’s JonBenét Ramsey movie, Who Killed JonBenét?, was released on Friday, September 23, and by the looks of it, the recreation of the decades-old crime is just as haunting today.
“I was Little Miss Colorado,” Payton Lepinski, the actress who portrays the late pageant queen, says in a voiceover. “This Christmas I would be 26, but to everyone I’ll always be 6.”
In the trailer, the cameras pan across mementos from JonBenét’s pageantry days, including a sash, a tiara and numerous ribbons and sparkly dresses.
The trailer also shows real-life photos from the little girl’s childhood and reenactments from her funeral, with her family — dad John (Michael Gill), mom Patsy (Julia Campbell), and older brother Burke, then 9 — gathered around her lowered casket.
JonBenét’s body was found in her family’s Boulder, Colorado, basement on December 26, 1996, just hours after they discovered a ransom note demanding $118,000 for her safe return.
The mystery of who killed the little girl has never been solved, though the Ramseys themselves were believed to be suspects in the case; in 2008, her parents were removed from the suspect list. (Patsy Ramsey had passed away from ovarian cancer two years earlier, in 2006.)
Interest in the case has increased in recent months with the premiere of A&E’s special, The Killing of JonBenét: The Truth Uncovered, on Monday, September 5, and a two-part CBS docuseries that debuted on Sunday, September 18.
JonBenét’s brother Burke, now 29, has become a focal point in the resurfacing of the case after finally breaking his silence in a sit-down interview with Dr. Phil earlier this month.
