What are the chances?! A Wheel of Fortune contestant, named Emil, made a lucky guess on what appeared to be an impossible puzzle on Wednesday, March 19.
During a bonus round win, Emil was given the category of “thing,” and selected “H, M, D, and O” to add to the standard R, S, T, L, N and E. Only the letters N and E, however, were revealed by hostess Vanna White as the first two letters of the three word, 12-letter phrase.
“This looks tough to me,” host Pat Sajak commented. “You’re a very good puzzle solver, but I don’t know. You have 10 seconds. Keep talking. Maybe the right thing will pop out. Good luck.”
What popped out — on the first guess — was the correct answer.
Emil screamed and jumped for joy after finding out he won $45,000 from the bonus round, while Sajak jokingly patted him down to see if he was cheating. “Wow,” the host said. “I’m rather stunned!”
After the show, Sajak, 67, tweeted on Thursday, March 20: “What made last night’s solve amazing was the generic category. Could have been ‘new anything.’ But ‘baby buggy?!’ Wow!”
