No one was safe in The Boys series finale.

Season 5 of the fan favorite Prime Video series officially came to an end on Wednesday, May 20, with one last episode that made viewers laugh, cry and ask, “What the actual f***?” Yes, the final head-to-head between Homelander (Antony Starr) and Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) was as bloody as expected — with more than one character dying before the credits rolled.

Spoilers for The Boys season 5, episode 8 below.

Wednesday’s episode, titled “Blood and Bone,” featured The Boys on one last ride as they head to the White House to take out Homelander. The epic showdown occurs after it’s confirmed that Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) has obtained Soldier Boy’s (Jensen Ackles) chest blast that will immediately get rid of a Supe’s powers.

The plan is simple: Storm the White House while Homelander announces that he’s the, ahem, second coming of Christ and take him out. And, for once, things actually go as planned.

Butcher and Homelander come face-to-face for a nasty fight — that ends up being televised. When it seems like Butcher is about to lose, the heroic return of Ryan (Cameron Crovetti) gives The Boys an upper hand. Kimiko, following a pep talk from Frenchie (Tomer Capone), blasts Homelander, who loses his powers.

Butcher beats his enemy with his trusty crowbar before thrusting it through Homelander’s skull.

“This is for my Becca,” Butcher says before delivering the fatal blow. (The first season of the show revealed that Homelander raped Butcher’s wife, Becca, and impregnated her with Ryan. She died during the show’s second season as her son developed his powers.)

Elsewhere in the episode, Annie (Erin Moriarty) launches The Deep (Chace Crawford) into the ocean, where he’s killed by several sea creatures. Oh Father (Daveed Diggs) also dies after being murdered by a ball gag at the hands of Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso). Terror the dog also dies.

Just when it seems like that’s the end of all the killing, one major death comes out of nowhere. Following The Boys’ victory, Butcher still attempts to eradicate all the Supes, nearly exposing them all to The Virus. Hughie (Jack Quaid) pushed to the edge, shoots Butcher and kills him.

“It’s all right, Hughie, I gave you no choice. I wasn’t going to stop,” Butcher says before he dies. “All the blood and s*** I put you through, and none of it made a blind bit of difference. You stayed yourself no matter what I’ve done.”

After burying Butcher (with a headstone reading, “Oi, f*** off, you c***s.”), The Boys go their separate ways. Mother’s Milk renews his vows, Kimiko lives out her dream life in France and Annie gets pregnant with Hughie’s baby.

Their story ends, aptly, set to Billy Joel’s “Piano Man.”

All episodes of The Boys are now streaming on Prime Video.
