XO, Kitty’s Anna Cathcart Addresses Show’s Future on Netflix: ‘Either Way, We’re Really Proud’ (Exclusive)

Anna Cathcart gave an update on XO, Kitty‘s future as fans hold out hope for a fourth season.

“To be honest, it is such a big question mark right now,” Cathcart, 22, exclusively told Us Weekly during an interview at Chinatown Ice Cream Factory in New York City in partnership with her new “Anna’s Mindful Mochi” flavor collaboration.

Cathcart noted that the rest of the cast is also in the dark, adding, “We’re not sure if we’re going to get a season 4 or not. But I think that either way, we’re really proud of season 3, and it was so fun to get to be back with everybody and shoot again. It did have a different feeling [than] season 2 and season 1.”

The actress called the experience “really special for a lot of reasons.”

“Of course, we’d be so lucky and so happy to do a season 4,” Cathcart continued. “But we’re still waiting on the answer. I’m also just as anxiously waiting as you are, I promise.”

The To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before spinoff series has built a loyal fan base since it premiered in 2023. Earlier this year, XO, Kitty returned for a third season with Kitty (Cathcart) still having to finish up at the Korean Independent School of Seoul (KISS) before heading off to college.

While viewers felt that a lot of potential stories were still left to explore, Netflix has yet to address the show’s future, which has caused online concern.

“I do think there’s a lot of exciting chapters for Kitty coming up that would be so interesting to see,” Cathcart told Us. “She has graduation, and having that chapter be finalized would be so, so exciting. It just means so much — even for me personally — to put a bow on Kitty’s high school years.”

Cathcart was thrilled to hopefully finish Kitty’s arc, saying, “I’ve been a part of her life now for, like, nine years, which is insane. I’ve grown up with her, so there’s a lot of, like, big moments that I would like to share with her hopefully in the future.”

Despite still holding out hope, Cathcart did tease how the story could continue for Kitty — whether on or off screen.

“I think Kitty would make the most of her senior year as she already did for the first half, graduation and prom. We just know that would be chaotic — but so heartfelt — as Kitty does with everything,” she continued. “I think she will have a really amazing summer before college starts and before that next stage opens up. And if she does end up going to NYU, I trust her that she would make the most of it and listen to her heart.”

There is also the subject of Kitty’s romance with Min-ho (Sang Heon Lee). They ended the season together after a multitude of obstacles that they had to overcome before their happily ever after.

“MoonCovey has been a big fan favorite since season 1. That relationship name wasn’t even a thing yet in season 1, but that ship was always kind of there, and I could tell that fans are really invested, which made me so happy,” Cathcart gushed. “It was so exciting getting to do season 3 and really get to explore that and dive into what that relationship would look like and who would they bring out in each other.”

Cathcart called it “such a special dynamic,” adding, “It was so fun to finally get to do it. We’ve been building up for so many episodes.”

Looking ahead, Cathcart isn’t limiting herself to just her role as Kitty. She told Us she would love to do a feature film — especially with action front and center.

“I would love to do something grounded and a little bit different tonally,” she shared. “I think that would be really interesting, but I still do love comedy. I would like to play an athlete or do something that has another physical aspect to it — and I would love to train and learn a new skill for a bit.”

Setor Tsikudo For The Kids Mental Health Foundation

For now, Cathcart is focused on unveiling her new flavor at the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory with Anna’s Mindful Mochi, which is a rice ice cream with rainbow mochi topping. From May 28 through June 30, $1 from every purchase of Cathcart’s ice cream will be donated to The Kids Mental Health Foundation, of which she is an ambassador, to support the organization’s mission to help kids build resiliency, confidence and emotional well-being.

“Anna’s Mindful Mochi is so good. I tried it today for the first time, and it exceeded my expectations,” she gushed. “The Kids Mental Health Foundation is so important to me, so we’re raising money for that, getting to eat ice cream and at the end of the month, I’ll match any donation that we make. I’m very excited to make an impact in the yummiest way possible.”

Cathcart continued: “Getting to volunteer or do things involved with organizations and foundations is something that’s so important to me. It can make all the other work feel so much more worth it and so much more like what I want to do. Because this is exactly what I also want to be doing. I love acting, and I love getting to enjoy the creative part of my work, but getting to give back and take time to do things like this is just as — or even more — fulfilling.”

Cathcart specifically wanted to spotlight mental health efforts, telling Us, “Maintaining a positive mental health is definitely a challenge that’s ongoing. I think that’s the same for a lot of us. I grew up with a lot of anxiety since I was a little kid — and I still struggle with that now. But it looks different at every different stage of my life. Being able to talk about it and be open with the people that you love and the people who love you, they want to be there for you, they want to hear this and they want to have these conversations. I’m hoping days like today when we can talk about this topic and just make it more normal can bring those conversations into living rooms and into family hangouts. That’s definitely my hope.”

XO, Kitty is currently streaming on Netflix.
