Is it just Us, or is it getting hot in here? Zayn Malik casually dropped the release date of his debut single, “Pillow Talk,” via one very sexy — and shirtless! — Instagram post on Sunday, January 24.
The former boy bander, 23, shows off his abs in the black-and-white image, which reveals Friday, January 29, as the all-important date of his first single as a solo artist.
According to Rolling Stone, Malik has spent the past few months in the studio working with Frank Ocean producer Malay to create music that’s more in tune with his own musical tastes.
“That’s not music I would listen to,” he told The Fader in an interview this past November, referencing his former band, One Direction. “Would you listen to One Direction … at a party with your girl? I wouldn’t. To me, that’s not an insult, that’s me as a 22-year-old man. As much as I was in that band, and I loved everything that we did, that’s not music that I would listen to. I want to make music that I think is cool s–t. I don’t think that’s too much to ask for.”
Malik left One Direction in a bombshell announcement last March, and in a recent interview with Billboard magazine, he noted that he hasn’t really kept in touch with Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, or Louis Tomlinson.
But the singer isn't ruling out a possible reunion in the future.
"I don't know," he told the Sunday Times Culture magazine on Sunday, January 24. "If the time was right and that was the thing to do, then I would make that decision when it came around."
Since splitting with the band, Malik has made other changes in his life too — calling off his engagement to former fiancée Perrie Edwards, and dating model Gigi Hadid.
The pair haven’t been shy about their new love, either. On January 2, the 20-year-old model shared a photo of the singer sitting on her bed shirtless while holding a kitten.
