No matter what she’s wearing or where she’s going, Jennifer Lawrence’s beauty look is consistently fresh and glowy, a look I’m personally trying to imitate daily. Whenever I hear about a product she’s using, I know I have to get my hands on it just to attempt to recreate her glam.
So when I saw the actress showing off her go-to lip balm, I immediately had to snag one for myself. Lawrence was photographed walking the streets of New York City while applying her Isla Beauty Lipid Layer Lip Balm, and as someone who has consistently dry lips no matter the time of year, it caught my attention. I’m willing to try just about anything to make my lips softer, and for less than $30, this seemed like a great buy.

I’ve been using the Isla Lipid Layer Lip Balm for a few weeks now and I’m happy to report that it definitely hasn’t disappointed me. I like to think of it as a lip balm and gloss in one: it leaves behind a beautifully shiny gloss that I can wear whether I’m running errands or going out, but it doesn’t feel sticky, tacky or uncomfortable. Instead, it’s super hydrating and genuinely makes my lips feel softer.
That’s because this lip balm is packed with moisturizing ingredients that work to actually get rid of dry, chapped skin rather than just masking it. Ceramides work on and below the surface to rebuild the lips’ barrier, locking in moisture so that it lasts. Meanwhile, bio-lipids and butters (jojoba, shea, mango and squalane) hydrate deeply – I find that the soft feeling this gives my lips lingers for hours after it actually fades away.
I also love that this lip barrier makes my lips look fuller, without the typical tingling or stinging feeling that comes with most plumping balms. Hyaluronic spheres make this possible, as they expand inside the lip to smooth and cushion lips and make them appear more plump. And while I enjoy a scented lip balm sometimes, it’s not always my favorite, so I love that this one is unscented, which makes it easy to put it on before I go to bed so I can wake up with softer lips. Plus, the smooth metal applicator feels pleasantly cooling and makes it easy to get the perfect amount of product.
And even though this is a newer product, this Isla product already has plenty of fans. “It’s silky smooth, the texture is like a balm and once applied to the lips it melts into an oil,” one reviewer wrote. “It keeps my lips nourished and plump. I like it as a night treatment because it truly seals in the moisture.”
“When I first applied it, I thought it was a standard clear gloss, but once I caught a glimpse in the light, I noticed it had a beautiful, cute, sheer nude pink tint,” another shopper wrote. “It’s subtle enough for everyday wear but gives your lips a nice ‘your lips but better’ glow.”
If you need a new go-to lip balm for everyday use, I can’t recommend the Isla Lipid Layer Lip Balm enough. It smooths lips, makes them feel so much softer and has the best applicator. What else could you want?
