As a shopping writer and a mom of two daughters, back-to-school shopping is about more than pencils and notebooks. Since my kids are young (my oldest is going into second grade and my youngest is starting pre-k this September), I end up doing the majority of the shopping for fun things like clothes and accessories. I could complain, but I secretly love searching for the cutest clothes that they’ll feel excited about and get a lot of wear out of.
Because my kids are still growing and test the limits of their clothing, I’m always on the hunt for high-quality items at low prices. Other things I’ve learned in the last few years? Stock their wardrobe with easy basics they can wear again and again, but add in some fun stuff too — think a colorful graphic tee or neon sneakers — to make them smile. Prioritize comfort over anything else, because it doesn’t matter if something is cute. If they don’t like how it feels, they won’t wear it.
Below are some of my favorite finds from Amazon’s back-to-school hub that I can’t wait to get not only for my daughters, but my nephews as well. They’re playful, affordable and versatile, so get them in your cart while you can!
17 Stylish Kids’ Outfits From Amazon’s Back-to-School Hub
1. Go-To Sweats: My girls love a good pair of sweats right now, and this matching set is perfect for upcoming chilly days. You can also layer the sweatshirt over a tee when it’s cold in the morning and warm in the afternoon.
2. Comfy Set: These matching sweats feature colorful graphics and a half-zip design that make them feel more on-trend. Plus, the trouser-style sweats keep them from looking too messy.
3. Sporty and Cute: Whether your kids are into sports or not, these athletic shorts are a must. They have stretchy shorts underneath with a hidden pocket and a lightweight feel that makes them perfect for comfy outfits in early fall.
4. On-Trend Pick: The mock neck style of this minimalist sweatshirt makes it feel trendy in a way that doesn’t feel over-the-top. I love that it looks more streamlined than a regular hoodie.
5. Activity Ready: Whether they’re running around during recess or heading straight to soccer practice after school, these Adidas shorts just make sense. They have that classic fit and design, and the low price point is a big bonus.
6. So Much Fun: If there’s one thing my daughters love, it’s a fun, colorful graphic on their clothes. This long-sleeved tee has a playful look and is one they’ll wear again and again.
7. Classic Fit: A good pair of jeans is a must for the school year. These Levi’s boy jeans are so versatile, with a classic straight-leg fit and an adjustable waistband for extra comfort.
8. Everyday Wear: Snag these low-top sneakers for your kiddos while you can – they’re unisex, on-trend and budget-friendly. Most importantly, they’re easy to wipe clean.
9. Colorful Kicks: My daughters love these bright sneakers, which they say are super comfortable and easy to run around in. They’re so easy to clean (even after we went hiking, I was able to get all the dirt off) and they make any outfit more fun.
10. Under $10 Alert: One item that gets the most wear in my kids’ closets is a skater dress like this one. It’s simple and comfortable, looks cute and fun and works with any kind of shoe.
11. Easy Basic: I love these pull-on shorts so much I bought a pair for my nephew. They have a comfy elastic waistband, but they look nicer than a pair of sweats, making them both functional and stylish.
12. Athletic Vibes: Available in cool colorways with a definite sporty feel, these Adidas sneakers are going to leave an impression. They also have a supportive midsole that will keep your kids’ feet happy even when they’re racing around.
13. Winter Essential: My kids live in a fleece like this North Face fleece jacket all autumn and into the winter. This one is soft and comfy enough that they can wear during class if they need to and we love the bright colors.
14. Out of the Box: If there’s one thing I’ve learned from having daughters, it’s that little girls love an unexpected shoe. These cowboy boots are exactly that, with a fun glittery star design that elevates any outfit.
15. Transitional Weather Need: If you have a boy who is only interested in wearing sweats, grab this matching set before September. Since it features fleece shorts and a matching short-sleeve hoodie, it’s cozy but still lightweight enough to work for warmer weather.
16. Sporty Chic: This adorable PatPat tennis skirt set is so much fun for little girls. The pleated skirt has built-in shorts (which is all any girl mom asks for!), and each piece can be worn separately as well.
17. Classic Go-To: You can’t go wrong with a cotton tee like this one. It’s comfortable, it goes with everything and is less than $10. I love the slightly stretchy feel too.
