Roseanne

Network: ABC

The sitcom Roseanne premiered on ABC in October 1988 and ran for nine seasons until May 1997. The show revolved around Roseanne Conner (played by Roseanne Barr) and her working-class family in a small town in Illinois, including husband Dan (John Goodman) and their three children: Becky (Alicia Goranson), Darlene (Sara Gilbert) and D.J. (Michael Fishman).

The series reached No. 1 in the Nielsen ratings, becoming the most- watched television show in the United States from 1989 to 1990. The series also won a Peabody Award in 1992 and scored the People’s Choice Award for Favorite New Television Comedy Program in 1989.

Roseanne returned for nine episodes in March 2018, but Barr was fired that May after she tweeted a series of racist comments. ABC eventually announced that the show was canceled and would not return for season 11. Despite the controversy, a spinoff series titled The Conners premiered in October 2018. Many of the original cast members returned, but Barr was not involved.
