Months before representing the United States on one of the biggest stages in sports, Team USA star Christian Pulisic was embroiled in a bitter breakup with his ex-girlfriend Alexa Melton

Melton — a 25-year-old professional golfer —  hinted on social media in April that Pulisic, 27, had joined a dating app before their relationship came to an end, which is believed to have happened earlier in the year. The couple started dating in June 2024.

Days later, Melton said she had received some “false info” and that her comments were “taken out of context.”

“He is not a cheater,” Melton wrote via her Instagram Story on April 9. “Any narrative beyond that is not mine.”

She added, “Out of respect for Christian’s and my privacy, I will not speak further regarding this matter.”

Pulisic broke his silence about the split in an interview with Time magazine published in May.

“I only look at her in the most positive way,” Pulisic said in the interview, which took place in February. “She was a lot of fun, and she supported me in every way. She wanted to push me to enjoy my life a little bit more and do things with her and do things just in general. And I was grateful for that.”

Pulisic reportedly declined “to go any deeper on the source of the split.”

In December 2025, Pulisic addressed a rumor that he was dating actress Sydney Sweeney

“Fake news guys, let’s stop with the silly rumor,” Pulisic wrote via Instagram under a post from Motivating Sport.

He added via his own Instagram Story, “Also please stop with the made up stories about my personal life. Need to hold sources accountable, it can affect people’s lives.”

Pulisic — who was born and raised in Hershey, Pennsylvania — is optimistic that the 2026 FIFA World Cup will help erase the recent ineptitude of the U.S. men’s national team.

“At the end of the day, if we go in and have a good World Cup, it’ll be all forgotten,” he told Time. “Everyone will talk about how great we do. That’s just the way things go.”

He added,  “I can sit in my bed at night and picture holding up the World Cup trophy. I did that as a kid. I’m not going to stop. You have to believe. Why not?”

Pulisic and Team USA open group stage play against Paraguay on Friday, June 12, at 9 p.m. ET.

Group D play resumes on Friday, June 19, against Australia, and concludes against Turkey on June 25. All games take place at Los Angeles Stadium (a.k.a. SoFi Stadium) in Inglewood, California.
