University of Georgia football radio broadcaster Scott Howard took to social media following the announcement that he has been replaced after 18 years in the role.
“Thank you to everyone for all the messages. Didn’t know that many people had my number 😳,” Howard posted via X on Friday, April 24. “Just to clear up any confusion, respectfully, it was not my decision to step away from the football broadcast.”
Howard’s post came on the heels of the University of Georgia announcing that broadcaster Jeff Dantzler and former Bulldog football player Jon Stinchcomb would be taking over the duties for the upcoming 2026 season.
Dantzler, who handles play-by-by for Georgia baseball and Lady Bulldog basketball, effectively replaces Howard in the booth.
In a statement, the university said Howard will continue as the men’s basketball play-by-play announcer, along with “other special projects.”
The news that the school was moving on from Howard on football broadcasts did not sit well with a large portion of Bulldog faithful.
“Thank you for 18 years as the voice of the Dawgs,” one fan commented on Howard’s post. “We enjoyed every game that you called and always looked forward to tuning in every Saturday, home or away.”
Another wrote, “This is so disappointing! You were a Saturday staple in our house! We always sync the radio to the broadcast because your calling was our favorite! Going to miss you behind the mic!! Go Dawgs and Thank you Scott for being the voice to all the amazing Georgia Bulldog memories!”
Dantzler similarly took to social media after news broke that he would be replacing Howard, who has worked for the Bulldog Radio Network for more than 30 years.
“I would like to thank everyone for the kind words, congratulatory messages and tremendous encouragement, it is absolutely overwhelming,” he wrote via X on Sunday, April 26. “This is a dream come true, the honor and responsibility of a lifetime. Thank you. Bulldog Nation, I love you. Thank you. Go Dawgs!”
The university did not provide a reason for the broadcast booth reshuffling, but expressed gratitude to Howard for his longtime tenure.
“Jeff Dantzler, Jon Stinchcomb and D.J. Shockley share a tremendous passion for the University of Georgia,” director of athletics Josh Brooks said in a statement. “We look forward to many more iconic calls as they bring to life exceptional moments in Georgia Bulldogs history. We also thank Scott Howard for his nearly four decades of work for the Georgia Bulldog Radio Network, and we are thrilled he is staying on as our men’s basketball announcer.”
