North Carolina police believe that the robbery that occurred at Greg Biffle’s home just weeks after his fatal plane crash was committed by the late NASCAR driver’s friends as part of a broader coverup, according to a sheriff’s search warrant obtained by the Charlotte Observer.

The incidents occurred on January 7 and January 8, nearly one month after Biffle’s death at age 55. More than $30,000 in cash as well as guns and memorabilia were allegedly stolen from the residence. Police, however, allege the purpose of the robbery “was a coverup to steal evidence of a more elaborate plan against the Biffle family and their wealth, not only of money but property as well.”

“It is the belief of this affiant that a plan has been in place by friends of Gregory Biffle and strategically executed after the death of the Biffle family,” an Iredell County sheriff’s detective wrote in the search warrant application filed on March 10.

A look at Greg and his wife Cristina’s bank accounts revealed “multiple counts of fraud,” according to the warrant.

The pair died along with Greg’s children and three others on December 18 when their plane crashed while trying to land at a Stateville, North Carolina airport.

“This fraud appears to have been a strategic and coordinated strike against all accounts through multiple states which has resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars being stolen,” the warrant said.

Police believe the “multiple conspirators” would have had to have “intimate knowledge” of the Biffles’ accounts, including identifying information like social security numbers and birthdays.

No arrests have been made in the case, which remains under investigation. Police have identified a woman who appeared at the December 16 celebration of Greg’s life, whose features appear consistent with someone spotted on surveillance footage during the robbery. The woman was a friend of Cristina’s, and license plate readers matched a pickup truck near the scene at the time to the truck owned by her husband.

Weeks after the robbery, TMZ acquired audio of the 911 call that came from the unidentified woman who called to report it. She claimed to have been at the house to help clean it following the crash.

“I’m at the house now, and it looks like someone tried to break in,” she could be heard saying. “Yeah, someone tried to kick the doors in.”

She clarified that the doors that appeared kicked in were located inside the house.

“It’s upstairs,” she said. “It’s the doors on the top of the stairs, which is bizarre!”
