Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Jake Bauers was glad Fox finally put some respect on his team’s name after he came out of nowhere to win NLCS MVP.
Bauers, 31, appeared at the desk alongside the Fox baseball panel — Kevin Burkhardt, Alex Rodriguez, David Ortiz and Derek Jeter — after the Brewers swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2026 National League Championship Series on Thursday, October 15.
Ortiz, 50, told Bauers that he finally picked the Brewers to win Game 4 after he and the rest of the panel stubbornly picked the Dodgers to win throughout the series.
“I see the graphics say Dodgers, Dodgers, Dodgers, Dodgers,” Bauers said with a laugh, trolling the hosts for refusing to pick the Brewers to emerge victorious over the two-time defending World Series champions.
Bauers was named Most Valuable Player of the NLCS on Thursday night, which came after a three RBI game, including a two-run ground rule double in the 4th inning that got the Brewers on the board and helped jumpstart their rally to win. The journeyman also hit an instantly memorable home run in the 7th inning of Wednesday night’s Game 3 that gave the Brewers the lead.
During his interview on Fox, Jeter, 52, asked Bauers about his “most gratifying” moment from the series.
“The homer last night for sure,” Bauers said, without hesitation. “That’s a special one. I’ll never forget that.”
Despite his heroics, Jeter noted that Bauers doesn’t “show a lot of emotion.”
“To be honest with you, man. This feels great. This feels awesome. But we got bigger dreams,” Bauers said. “I’m just trying to stay focused as best I can until there’s not a game left to play.”
The Brewers will take on the winner of the American League Championship Series between the Cleveland Guardians and Tampa Bay Rays in the World Series, which starts in Milwaukee on Friday, October 23.
Bauers’ six RBIs in the NLCS tied a franchise record for most in a postseason series. After the series win, Brewers outfielder Sal Frelick gushed about his teammate’s performance.
“Unbelievable,” Frelick, 26, said. “No one deserves it more. I think if you had every single person on this team write down who it should be before the series even happened, we’d all write that guy.”
Brewers star Christian Yelich echoed the praise for Bauers on Thursday night.
“He’s been huge for us all season, and I’m just really proud of him,” Yelich, 34, said. “He’s been a huge part of our team, and he had an unbelievable series with some great at-bats and a huge homer last night and a big double today to get things rolling. He did a great job.”
