Good Morning Football host Jamie Erdahl is opening up about why she was away from NFL Network for part of March.
“A great man is gone,” she wrote via Instagram on Thursday, May 28, alongside a trio of photos of her father. “3 days after the Super Bowl, my Dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. And now, he’s not here. I loved my Dad with my whole heart. And he loved the girls in his life more.”
In the first photo, the Minnesota native Erdahl, 37, is wearing a purple jacket and her father has on what appears to be a Randy Moss jersey. The two are on the field at SoFi Stadium before a game between the Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Chargers.
Erdahl’s caption continued, “My Mom, sister, and I are profoundly sad to be without him. But I am really trying to meet my sadness with appreciation. Grateful he was MY Dad. He taught me how to play and love basketball. What it meant to be [a] selfless point guard, and person. He gave me my love for football. He was so bright, so social, so kind, so inclusive, so generous, so wise. Growing up, I watched him make everyone’s world better. He made mine great. And I’m heartbroken he’s gone. I will love you forever, Dad. SKOL.”
“Love you Jamie!” GMF’s Sherree Burruss wrote in the comments section. “Sending love to you and your family ❤️.”
NFL insider Tom Pelissero also commented, writing, “Prayers to you and your family, Jamie.”

Fox Sports host Charissa Thompson commented, “Oh Jamie. Nothing anyone can say will take away your pain, but know you have so many people who love and care about you ❤️ sending you the biggest hug 🫶🏽.”
Erdahl announced via X on March 11 that she temporarily stepped away from Good Morning Football to address “an extremely personal + tragic health situation of an immediate family member,” but did not go into detail. She returned on March 16.
“It’s fantastic to see your face here on JMFB, Jamie Morning Football,” co-host Kyle Brandt joked on the air. “We’ve missed you, we love that you’re here. Nothing has changed in the NFL, it’s no big deal, there’s been nothing weird, there’s been nothing exciting. You missed nothing — you missed a lot Jamie!”
Erdahl joined GMF in 2022 and currently cohosts alongside Brandt, 47, and former NFL linebacker Manti Te’o.
She married former Michigan football player Sam Buckman, in 2017, and the pair share three daughters: Brooke Marie, 6, Avery, 4, and Nora James, 2.
